Dancer XX Dream & ArtPrize Installation Video

Have you ever dreamed about doing something huge? I made a twenty foot tall kinetic figurative steel sculpture that flows with the wind. Check it out in this Dancer XX Dream and ArtPrize Installation Video!!!

About half a year ago, in April 2014, I had a vision to build a twenty foot tall kinetic figurative steel sculpture, balancing on one foot and holding a huge piece of fabric that would blow it around in the wind.  I have made many kinetic sculptures before, I have made thirty foot tall sculptures, I have even used fabric with a large piece before but I have never combined all three and tried doing it on a deadline.

Securing a spot to show in ArtPrize gave me a wonderful opportunity to show my best and most complex work and I chose to use that as a deadline for Dancer XX to push me towards my goal.

This video documents the process of fabricating the frame of the figure, using paper templates to create the steel skin, welding and forming the sheet metal pieces and finally putting all the pieces together for the installation at ArtPrize 2014.  You get a real sense of the layers of work it took to create this figure and are taken on a journey of about 6 months of my life as a sculptor.

I was thrilled to sell the Drown (weeping woman) sculpture you see briefly during ArtPrize and hope you enjoy this view from inside this artist’s studio and life.  Enjoy!
