This is a small new kinetic body-part-collage piece I recently finished. I have been playing with kinetic balancing sculpture since 1996 and love the simple center of gravity principle to hold these pieces onto the balancing rods. There is no welded connection between the body parts and the post other than gravity. The sculpture is placed on the post and spins, anyone could come lift it off or spin it too hard and it would fall off.

Welcome to steelstatue.com, the website for sculptor Jack Howard-Potter. With this update you will find a collection of photographs highlighting sculptures created in 2011. These works are smaller in scale than many of his previous works, but retain the wonderful balance of movement and solid anatomy that is inherent in all of Jack’s work. With this work, Jack has also started to finish pieces as he has envisioned in his mind’s eye for years – with chrome plating. In 2011, Jack chose to focus on smaller works in this exploration of the human form, due to the technical challenges of chrome plating steel. These small pieces will serve as stepping stones to fully realizing larger works finished in chrome in the future.

Please come check out my newest sculpture just back from a new finishing process, chrome plating! I am ecstatic about the look of the newest piece, an abstract muscle study with a futuristic and beautiful finish. The piece is the culmination of a dream I have had for years of having whole sculptures chrome plated to achieve the smooth, uniform and balanced look.

The Miniatures show is a wonder of affordable and amazing art that does not exceed the six inch size limit in any direction. I saw a preview of the show today and there are wonderful small paintings, sculptures, drawings, and really great apartment ready work for sale.
